Influence of gap filling on mechanical properties of composite-aluminum single-lap single-bolt hybrid joints

Composite-aluminum structures exist in aircraft generally. It is easy to cause gap between mating surfaces composite-aluminum assembled with the curing deformation of composite. The composite-aluminum, single-lap, single-bolt joints were utilized investigate influence forced assembly, liquid shim and peelable fiberglass on mechanical properties structures. A steel gasket that removed middle part was used joint make a gap. 3D Digital Imagine Correlation (3D-DIC) system measure strain field specimens progressive damage model created ABAQUS. results show filling can significantly increase tension stiffness peak load compare assembly. As thickness changes, effects tensile shows different. or reduce value around hole has better result than shim. squeeze bolt composite laminate greater impact matrix fiber-matrix shear damage, while secondary bending fiber damage.
